Description
Antique Toile de Jouy cotton fabric from circa 1800s. There are two piece measuring about 31x36 inches each. The edges are scalloped as in their previous form they were part of a pelmet. Red on white (or pink on off white) with designs of Europeans in a Middle Eastern environment. My research shows this could be one of the toiles that represent the French General Kleber invading Cairo. There are ships, lots of figural scenes including chain French men and women being presented to a Cairo king, camels, men fighting with sword, a obelisk with crescent moon and star on top, and much more. Very graphic and detailed piece. In good condition with some spots and small holes.
