Vintage 1930s quilt measuring 82 by 83 inches. The pattern is called an Improved Nine Patch which essentially is a nine patch and snowball block. There are 40 nine patches and 41 snowball blocks, each measuring about 6.6 inches square. There is a 2.5 inch sawtooth border and a 7.5 inches striped border. In fact, all the fabrics in this quilt are pastel stripes, including the binding and the backing. Binding measures about 3/8 inch, on grain. The quilt was pieced by machine and hand quilted at 7 spi with zig zag motifs in the border, an X motif in the 9 patch and large X motifs in the snowballs. It is in good condition. There is a white spot on one corner and a small brown spot on a block. |
