Antique Sampler quilt measuring 72 by 75 inches. There are 16 blocks, each measuring about 13.5 inches, with a 4 inch sash, and 2.5 inch border. It is hand pieced and hand quilted at 8 spi. The binding measures .25 inch and is machine and hand applied. The backing is pieced, large squares and 4 patches. One of the fabrics used is an antique cheater cloth fabric.
There is a Log Cabin block at each corner, 2 Cake Stand blocks, a one patch, Virginia Reel, Chained 5 Patch, Cross and Crown, Monkey Wrench, Four Z Patch, Friendship Quilt, and 3 others I was not able to identify. Most of the patterns are from Ladies Art Company. Fabrics include turkey red, double pink, overdyed green, shirtings, solids, red with black prints, chrome yellow, and more.
I don’t usually buy sampler quilts, but found a very unique top in April, and then this one shortly after with the same lay out with cheddar sashing and turkey red cornerstones, and the same Cross and Crown block, so I had to have this one, too. This one was purchased in NY, but is from Lancaster, PA. Reversed of the other…purchase in PA buy tagged from NY. In very good condition. No spots or tears, the back is a little faded.
