One of two vintage Bluework quilts. They were purchased in Pennsylvania, but tagged NJ 1925. It measures 60 by 88 inches. It has 24 blocks that measure about 8 inches square. There is a 4.5 inch sashing in block cotton, a 4 inch wide border, a 4.25 inch white border and a .5 inch blue bias binding with in the scalloped edge. The quilt is hand embroidered, machine pieced, and hand quilted at 10spi. The embroidered blocks include Birds, Cat with a Fiddle, Tom the Piper’s Son, Flowers, Dutch Girl Waving Goodbye to a Ship, Jack and Jill, Girl baking, Girl. Feeding Chickens, Girl Kissing a Bird, Little Bo Peep, Rooster, Peter Rabbit, Boy with a Polar Bear, Humpty Dumpty, and more. Three motifs are repeated. It is quilted in each block in a radiating X pattern, in the sashing and blue border with a cross hatch pattern and a feather circle at each intersection. The white border has a quilted chain motif. There is a thin batting and a blue cotton backing. Condition is good…some fading in the sashing and a bleach spot.
