Vintage Grandmother’s Fan Quilt, circa 1930s, and measures 75 by 85 inches. There are 28 fan blocks and 28 solid blue fabric blocks that measure 9.5 inches square. The fans are made up of a variety of typical 1930s and 1940s feedsack prints. It is machine and hand pieced, hand appliquéd, and hand quilted at 7 spi. The solid blue blocks are hand quilted in a knot motif, and the fans are quilted by the piece and a grid in the ground. The border is a solid blue and solid off white pieced striped border, each measuring about 1.5 inches wide (not perfectly straight). It is quilted with a chain motif. Edging is 3/8 of an inch wide, on grain, and applied by machine in the front, and by hand in the back. The backing is a solid cotton muslin, and it has a medium weight cotton batting. This quilt is from Pennsylvania. In good condition. It has a small hole on the corner, it does not go all the way through, and one spot that I noticed.
